Jessica Powers & Mason Powers

How/where did you meet?

Our love story is different than most. Mason came to Southern Arkansas University from Iowa on a Cross Country Scholarship and studied business. I grew up in Magnolia and decided to study to become a teacher. Mason graduated from SAU in 2016 with a Bachelor’s in Business degree, and I graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education. We never knew each other until years later after we graduated from SAU.
Mason and I “met” through Facebook. He’d seen a devotional I posted, and messaged me through Facebook complimenting me on it. Not long after, we were talking over the phone and FaceTiming daily. It didn’t take long for us to realize faith, family, and being a graduate from SAU is what bonded us. Even though we lived 12 hours away from each other, (Mason in West Des Moines, Iowa, and myself in Magnolia, Arkansas) we made our long distant relationship work. Over the next year we would travel as many times as we could to see each other in person.
January 11, 2019 an exact year later that we “met” through Facebook, Mason proposed to me at First Presbyterian Church in Magnolia. We were married July 27, 2019 at the same church were Mason proposed. I’ll always thank God for bringing us together! His timing is always perfect!

Are there any special memories of you two on campus

On our wedding day we were gifted with a brick that read, “Mason loves Jessica, July 27, 2019”. We love walking on SAU’s memory brick lane and finding our wedding brick and our graduation bricks. We also enjoy walking the farm road were Mason would run during his time at SAU with his cross country team mates.

What did the two of you do for fun/dates?

Since most of our time together was spent talking on the phone or FaceTiming, it was always a treat just to see each other in person. Some of my favorite memories of us dating are spending the day eating delicious food and relaxing in Magnolia, and touring the Iowa Capital and watching the 4th of July fireworks in West Des Moines.

How many years have you been together?

2 years, 4 months
